....and the list goes on....

Last Sunday, November 8, 2015, another world record was set by the Filipinos, hooray!

Calata Corporation, one of the biggest agribusiness conglomerates in the country, recently mounted a grand "Lechon Party", achieving a Guinness World Record on the largest serving of roast pork.  Held at Liwasang Aurora, Quezon City Memorial Circle, this event also served as celebratory feast and an early Christmas treat for the less privileged residents of Metro Manila, as part of the company's 16th anniversary.

Previously, the Guinness World Record on the largest serving of roast pork was held by Mexico where they served 3,094.2 kilograms of cochinita pibil, a popular roast pork dish in its Yucatan region.  Calata Corporation topped the record by serving 4,046 kilograms of the country's well-loved version of roast pork--the lechon.

"This year, we celebrated our 16 successful years in the business by giving back to the community instead of having a lavish party.  This is a very momentous occasion for the Philippines, to break the Guinness World Record for the 'Largest Serving of lechon'," shared Joseph Calata, Chairman and CEO of Calata Corporation.

There were people who are pre-registered for the event, they just have to get their claim stubs

It was an orderly registration, there were also police in the event area to maintain peace and order

Before the grand party started, media were given a glimpse inside the lechon chopping area to see how the world record is being broken.  A group of men chopping the lechon chanting altogether and a giant digital weighing scale were there to measure the amount of chopped lechon.  If I heard it correctly, 330 pigs were roasted for this record-breaking event courtesy of Lydia's Lechon.

It was indeed a grand event wherein GMA celebrities were also invited to entertain the people while waiting for the lechon to be served.  Glaiza de Castro, Kristoffer Martin, and Derrick Monasterio serenaded the guests during the event.

It was a heart-stopping moment to hear from the representative of Guinness to announce whether the record was broken or not.

Congratulations to the Philippines in breaking the record previously held by Mexico!

People lined up the lechon claiming area to claim a plateful serving of lechon.  There's really more than enough for everybody!

....and the Lechon Party starts.  People are lining up to taste the lechon

Let's eat!

Calata Corporation's "Lechon Party" reflects how much the company values achievement, success, gratitude and kinship.  Indeed, it's a great way to kick off the holiday season by sharing their blessings with the less privileged and gathering family and friends.

Let's eat lechon, but in moderation, hihihi :)
